Convocation 2008 September 4, 2008

Convocation is a celebration to welcome the new class to the University. It includes the faculty marching in full garb – and Stevenson University has the faculty “piped in” by it’s own bagpiper – and other pomp and circumstance. The difficult part is that Convocation happens on the day of new resident Move-In, which is a tremendously long and busy day starting at 6am for many of the staff and volunteers.  But, as I stood watching the procession and all the speeches and presentations, and also watching the faces of the audience – new students and their families – it really hit me how important that moment is.  It is wonderful to Welcome these new students and to make the parents know how important their sons and daughters are to the University Community and what good care we will take of them.

Here is part of the parade of club leaders and athletes (they divide at the stage so I could only get one side).  And here also is the Faculty March with bagpipes!
